Various Types Of Motorcycle Helmets
For those that love the lifestyle of motorcycling choosing a motorcycle helmet is the most important safety consideration. Take away the chin protection and visor from a full face helmet and that basically gives you a 3/4 or open face helmet. At the same time, this is one of the downsides of this helmet, that it does not protect thoroughly against bugs and debris during a ride. Also the level of face protection, even with some type of added face shield, is much less than a full face helmet. ## What Some Call the “Beanie”
This helmet, with its raised rear section, is the lightest and least intrusive helmet to wear. Commonly worn by those riding bikes such as Harley Softails, these helmets also provide the least protection. Often this will be the type of helmet chosen by a rider to minimally comply with the local regulations. Sport bike or touring riders usually want more protection and will not choose this type of helmet over a full face or open face helmet.
Not like motorcycle bags, which have virtually no safety benefits, helmets are certified by the Department of Transportation. Look for the DOT sticker on the helmet which is proof of this.
