What is an Antique?

The definition of what an antique is varies depending upon who you talk to, what product you are talking about and even what year it is.  But here are some time-tested definitions of what deserves to be called an antique:

  • Something that is at least 50 to 100 years old, and is collected or desired by others because of its rarity, condition, utility or other feature that makes people want to collect it.

The varying degrees of what is considered an antique mean that a car, if older than 25 years, could be considered an antique. But a piece of furniture is generally considered an antique if more than 100 years. old. Even that is not a hard and fast rule. Electronic gadget and computers could be considered antiques if that are as little as 10 years old.

Antiques are usually objects that show a degree of craftsmanship, attention to detail, design, and care. Antiques are found in antique shops, or passed down by family members.
